It's been another great week at HPS! Students have settled back into class and school routines.

HPS School Advisory Council Needs You!

It's that time of year! School Advisory Council (Parent Council) elections for Executive Positions are coming up soon! The first Parent Council Meeting of the 2026-2027 school year is on Monday, September 21st at 6:00 pm. 

Please use the link below to submit nominations. Nominations are anonymous and you can nominate yourself or someone else for a position. If you are nominating someone, please ensure they have agreed to your nomination. The person you nominate must be available to be present at the meeting. Your nomination does not count as a vote; you must be present to vote. Nominations are due by noon on Friday, September 18th.

HPS School Advisory Council Nomination Form for 2026-2027   – Fill out form

Positions for election are:

Chair

Represents, works with and provides support to all school community and council committee chairs. This person works closely with the school principal and VP, school staff and families to enrich the education of all students. Additionally, they preside over and conduct monthly council meetings, set agendas and schedule meetings (in consultation with the VP/Principal). The chair promotes discussion amongst council members and the community, receives and reports on correspondence sent and received by council. Acts as coordinator between the school board and council. Receives documentation from board and keeps council advised of board decisions, activities etc. Supports programs, initiatives and activities led by other council members and contributes to the monthly council newsletter.

Vice Chair/Co-Chair

Presides at meetings in the absence of the chair or upon the incumbent’s inability to serve. Responsible for overseeing all sponsored events and programs.

Treasurer

Works with the council and coordinators in developing an operating budget, keeps a full and accurate account of receipts and expenditures and serves as the liaison with the Board of Education. Additional responsibilities include depositing/disbursing funds on behalf of the council, the preparation of monthly financial statements, and the preparation & filing of all necessary financial reports.

Secretary

Attends scheduled council meetings, records, maintains and distributes minutes of meetings, keeps non-financial records of council.

Indigenous Representative

This is a new position with HPS' SAC and will evolve and grow organically.

Member at Large (can be divisional reps)

Attends meetings and participates in many aspects of council activities, as prescribed by council. Voting member. Kindergarten, Primary, Junior/Intermediate positions can be created.

Fundraising Coordinator

Plans, manages fundraising activities of council. Works closely with treasurer.

All are welcome to attend any of our meetings this year. Meeting dates will be shared out after our Sept. 21st meeting.

Terry Fox Walk/Run/Roll

The 2026 Terry Fox School Walk/Run/Wheel is set and we are so excited to be taking part! Our event will take place on Friday, October 2, 2025, at 12:45. Parents are welcome to join us for the event. Our rain date will be Thursday, October 8th. We need your help to boost our students’ fundraising goal of $1000. This event supports vital cancer research.

The Terry Fox Foundation has created an online fundraising page customized for our school. Don’t delay, let’s start fundraising today!

IMPORTANT

2026/27 Medical Forms.

A reminder that the LDSB requires medical forms to be completed each school year for medical conditions as well as medications taken at school. In order to make access to these forms easier for families, we have included them on our website. They can be found under the "Our School" tab, Medical forms.


Drop off & pick up - times and locations

  • Drop off and pick up for students in Grades 1-8 will continue to be on the east side of the school.
  • On rainy days & bus cancellation days, all student pick ups will occur at the front door. Drop offs will be at the usual east side of the school.
  • Parking is available at the S & A Hall on Colebrook Rd which allows for access to the sidewalk for families and students.
  • There is no parking available for families in the school parking lot at drop off and pick up times. Thank you for your attention to this.
  • Supervision begins at 8:50am on the yard.
  • Kindergarten students can be dropped off and picked up by families at the fenced Kindergarten area.
  • Please note that the gate on the west side of the school is not used for pick up or drop offs for safety reasons.

Cross Country Team

Students in grades 3 to 8 are welcome to join the Cross Country Team. The practices will be held on Monday and Friday mornings at 8 a.m. and Wednesday during the school day. The first practice will be on Wednesday, September 9th during recess. In order to participate in practices and races, the permission forms on School Day must be completed first.


Gino's & Subway Lunches

  • October lunch orders are available now on School Day . Deadline to order is September 18th

The remaining months will be added to School Day in the next couple of weeks.

IMPORTANT: If buses are cancelled due to inclement weather, lunch orders will be cancelled that day. A rescheduled day will be sent to families.


Reporting Absences

A reminder to report your child's absence through the Safe Arrival program/app. The following link will provide you with instructions on how to download the app or other options to record the absence: Report My Child's Absence

IMPORTANT: If buses are cancelled due to inclement weather, and your child will not be attending on that day, you must record their absence choosing the "Inclement Weather (all transportation types and walkers)".


Acceptable Use Agreement (aka Computer Use Agreement)

Each year families need to complete the Acceptable Use Agreement as per LDSB policy. Only students from grades 1 to 8 are required to complete the form which is done electronically through School Day. We would ask that you complete this form as soon as possible.
